A Portrait Called Life

I used to wait around,
thinking that once I was done with school, work, exercising,
paying the bills, amongst other chores
that someday these things would amount
to something with a silver lining,
a day when everything would make sense
and I would be eased into an era of bliss and freedom
Then it dawned on me one morning
when I was watching the sunrise.
There were so many things I'd been missing out on.
I thought about the colours that spewed
across the horizon
and how they alarmed the sleepy eyes
of the world, telling everyone that a new day was coming.
Blues, greens, yellows, reds and oranges
sank their hues into review mirrors
permitting every set of eyes to start over.
At this point I heard the sky calling out to the world,
using its rainbow claw to reach out
as its colours screamed
"Wake up, wake up."
Because our everyday obstacles
are all a part of the big picture,
a portrait that is never complete until our last breath.
Every morning and every night fall
were the things I had missing all along.
There were these everyday barriers that I vowed to jump over
and be done with. When I was through with these,
I could finally start living my real life.
I kept waiting for everything to begin.
Then I finally opened my eyes,
blinked the sleep out of them and realized that
these obstacles were my life.
